Ski Exercise 6 - Running

29 December 2011

Lets face it, to be truly fit, lean and to get the most enjoyment from your skiing it takes a
bit of hard work and preparation. Now that your legs are strong (from all your squats) and
your joints are mobile (from all your flexibility), you feel powerful (from all your kettlebell
swinging)… You can run! Running is the most natural form of human location and is ideal
for building up the stamina, strength and endurance you need for a full day of skiing. It not
only helps you to adjust to time spent on your legs, but it makes the heart and lungs fitter
and stronger and hence your skiing experience more enjoyable.

The problem is however, that so many people hate running! This often comes from the
fact that they are either bored when they run or they have been injured running. Well
then, perhaps they are doing it wrong? Doing it wrong? But surely everyone can run, you
don't have to learn to run!… Contrary to popular belief running is not something these
days that just comes naturally to us, we do not all have a “unique” running style that is
safe and effective. Our modern world and our modern footwear has created unnatural
movements and postures and strange muscles lengths and proportions that result in poor
running techniques, running related injuries and often a strong dislike for running. If this
sounds like you then perhaps you should consider having your running analysed by a
running specialist who can provide you with practical feedback about how to improve your
technique and use running to prepare yourself for your skiing break. Who knows, maybe
you’ll shed a few pounds along the way and you may even enjoy it!
